July 2016

It's getting very hot now! We tried to ignore the heat this month by having a funny party each week. Our first one was Wacky Wednesday on the 6th. We all dressed up in mixed up, crazy outfits that made everyone laugh, and had a silly fashion show.

Next was Pajama Day on the 15th. We came to school in our favorite nightgowns and P.J.'s, and some of us even brought our teddy bears (or bunnies). We even took a little nap in the afternoon!

On the 22nd we had Crazy Hair Day! Some of us put our hair in lots of pigtails, some had spiky Mohawks and Miss Maura's hair was blue! We also made some funny bouncy eyes and flowers to tie on. It was really fun!

Finally, the 29th was our Water Day. Everyone put on a swim suit and got wet outside, to cool off from the heat! It was the best way to spend a hot summer day. We ate ice cream and had a great time.

This July we studied the alphabet, phonics and sight words. Dream Class focused on learning the names and phonetic sounds of the alphabet, and learned a few common sight words, like "big", "and", "can", etc. Love Class learned many new sight words and reviewed phonics with Miss Stephanie.

We did a few sight word and ABC crafts too, like writing our favorite word with glitter and finger painting the alphabet and words we like. We played a few games too, like "ABC Bingo".

July 18th was the beginning of summer according to Korean traditions, so we celebrated by eating some yummy home made chicken soup (Samgetang). It was so good!

We were also able to pick some of the tomatoes we've been growing outside and some of the potatoes that we planted. It was really exciting to see how big they grew.

This month there were two birthdays. First was Junon's 6th birthday on July 26th. He showed us some cute baby pictures and blew out the candles on his yummy chocolate cake.

Next was Pete's 5th birthday on the 29th (also our Water Day!). He showed us some really cute photos! We all wished him a happy birthday and gave him some presents. Then it was time to have cake!

Unfortunately we also have some sad news this month. Miss Maura will be saying goodbye to us in September, as she has decided that after many years of teaching overseas it's time to go spend some time with her family in the U.S. She had so much fun playing, learning with and teaching the students this year. She loved getting to know all of them and meeting their families. They are such special kids! She hopes to return to Korea in 2017 and would love to come visit everyone again next year. Her last day will be September 7th. She says that she isn't saying "goodbye", just "see you soon!"
