November was a busy month with lots of celebrations and new faces! Our theme this month was science. The students learned about different things that sink and float, and why they do that. We also learned about the difference between solids, liquids, and gasses, what they are made of, and the shapes they form.
We got to watch and take part in a lot of really cool experiments. These were:
Observing ice cubes turn to water, then water vapor when heated in a kettle,
Objects floating and sinking in a tub of water,
A balloon being blown up from the gas produced when baking soda and vinegar are mixed together.
Mixing corn starch with warm water it produced a solid when it was still, and a liquid when it was moved.
During the rest of November students continued practicing their handwriting skills, and continued learning about different Montessori jobs.
Welcome
This month we had the privilege of welcoming three new students to SEM. Damon and his younger brother Harrison, and Nathaniel. Damon was welcomed into LOVE class and Harrison and Nathaniel were welcomed into Dream class.
On Friday November 4th, the sun was shining and there was a hint of warmth in the air. It was a beautiful day for our garage sale. The tables were set up outside, all of the students had brought in a range of different things that they wanted to sell, and they all had money to buy themselves new things. Before the garage sale started, Mr Adrian and Miss Anna talked about the concept of buying and selling things. To help the students understand more, they role played a buying and selling situation which was a lot of fun!
On Friday, November 11th we had two celebrations. The first, was Austin's birthday. The Second, was Pae Pae Ro day. Pae Pae Ro day is a great day for eating yummy chocolate sticks. If only there were more days like this during the year!
We started the day celebrating Austin's birthday, then after lunch we got to eat many different kinds of chocolate sticks as a treat. They were all very delicious!
Happy Birthday Austin
We all celebrated American Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 24th. We all put our creative hats on and made colorful paper plate turkeys. Then, we learned about the traditions and history of the day. For lunch, we celebrated with a full thanksgiving meal... which was very delicious! We also talked about what we are thankful for, and drew some colorful pictures.
