January 2017

Hope, Love, and Dream Classes

Happy New Year and welcome to 2017 at SEM.

After the long, relaxing Christmas vacation we were all really excited to come back, and start the New Year focusing on our Year End Program.

At the start of this month the students in Hope and Love class were each given different roles, and worked hard learning their words and dance moves for Musical English's performance of Snow White.

The students from Hope and Love class also chose "I will Survive" as their hip-hop dance that they will perform on the night.  Working with all of the students, and helping them to learn the words to the song, along with the dance moves was so much fun.

At the same time Dream class learned the words and dance moves to their "Cookie Crumble" dance, that they will also be performing at the Graduation Cremony.

When Hope, Love, and Dream class weren't rehearsing for their hip-hop dance, and the Snow White play, they studied their lines for their speeches.  I must admit... watching each of the students take their position on the stage, and listening to them practicing their lines brought tears to my eyes... not only because some are funny.... but because they sound amazing, too! Everyone has worked really hard!

Dream class worked on their phonics, while Hope and Love class worked on their Math and Workbook to improve their vocabulary and sentence structure.  We also got to do some fun art, too!

After all the hard work, Love class took a short break and played ball outside with Mr. Adrian.

During this busy month we also celebrated three birthdays. The first was Mr. Adrian's on January 12th.  Hilda's 5th birthday was on January 19th, and finally, Amber's 7th birthday was on January 26th.

Happy birthday Mr. Adrian.

Happy birthday Hilda.

Happy birthday Amber.

Hope Class decided to celebrate the New Year in style with juice and cookies, but... a celebration wouldn't be a celebration without everyone learning their speeches at the same time.  Cheers Hope class!

December 2016

Hope, Love and Dream Classes

T'is the season to be jolly, and what  festive month December has been.  We've had lots of birthday celebrations, and not to forget.... a personal visit from Santa Clause.. which was really cool.  Unfortunately, Rudolph was sick, so he couldn't join us this year!  Because of this our theme this month was to focus on music and Christmas songs.

The students did a great job of memorizing some Christmas songs, and we all had lots of fun singing them together.  We also learned different Christmas characters and traditions to get into the spirit for the holidays!

During musical English this month we all had fun learning the words and dance moves for our graduation ceremony performance.

The students were very creative in art class, they made many beautiful pictures, and a Christmas Wreath using rice snacks. They also continued working on their handwriting skills, learning new Montessori jobs, and had lots of fun making arts and crafts with Mr. Adrian and Miss. Ana.

During this festive month we celebrated five birthdays, Irene's birthday on December 9th, Theo's birthday on December 12th, Nathaniel's birthday on December 17th which was a Saturday, so we had a party on the 16th, Andy's birthday on December 21st, and finally, Olivia's birthday on December 23rd.

Happy birthday Irene.

Happy birthday Theo.

Happy birthday Nathaniel.

Happy birthday Andy.

Happy birthday Olivia.

On December 23rd, we had our annual Christmas party, complete with presents and a Christmas feast. The boys looked very handsome in their tuxedos, and the girls looked very pretty in their best white dresses.

A few days before the Christmas party took place, the students drew a food item from a hat, and then brought that item to the party.  This created a huge, yummy potluck lunch for everyone to enjoy!

Santa Claus himself made a surprise appearance. It was very nice of him to take time out of his busy schedule, especially with Rudolph being sick.

To end our fun filled, festive day we saw a magic show from a great magician. I am still trying to work out how Austin turned the paper in to a white dove!

Merry Christmas to you all. Everyone here at SEM looks forward to seeing you in the New Year!
