October 2022

Welcome to October! Did you read our last blog post? It's especially full of fond memories as it includes July through September photos. This post will be a little more toned down, but still just as nice in sharing what's been going on here at Stephanie's English Montessori!

In October, we learned about inventions. Inventions and their inventors was an especially difficult topic, but we were able to learn about things like fridges and telephones, Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple, and new names and faces.

Here is one of our students showing the chick she made from cooking class. Doesn't it look too cute to eat?

In science, we also learned about the phases of the moon! Waxing gibbous was especially a favorite, and a repeated new word. Here you can see one of our students coloring in the waning crescent phase of the moon.

We had our usual robot class. Here one of our newest students, Lucy is showing off her elephant robot she made.

Lastly, here is our group photo from our Halloween party at the end of October.

As we said, the blog post for this month is shorter, but we hope you enjoyed it just as much. Again, please read the last post if you haven't. Thank you for reading, and please look forward to November's post!

July, August, September 2022

It's been awhile, hasn't it? Although it's been a few months, the memories of this month are still fresh in our minds.

In July, there was a lot going on, and we regret that we are very late in sharing all the fun we had. In July, we had a pajama party, and crazy hair day. We also celebrated Regan's birthday as well as experimented making cloud dough. They were messy and crazy times, that we hope can be held meaningfully in our memories even as we share the with our readers a few months late.

In the month of August, we learned about sports. Soccer in particular, was a fan favorite amongst our students, as well as ballet. In the game of learning, all our students are winners!

As well as studying about sports, we also celebrated one birthday in August. Rian's birthday was August 16th. She celebrated turning 6 years old. Doesn't she look happy?

As well as celebrating a birthday, our students enjoyed fishing, a good refresher from previous months of learning about the ocean and ocean life.

That brings us to our next topic. In September, we learned about landmarks and water landmarks.

In September to solidify our learnings, we went on a picnic to Doeum Mountain here in Pohang. It was a fun and enjoyable time, and we were able to work up a small sweat but enjoy the sunshine.

Going through these memories, we remember how hot and humid these months were, but we also remember how fast our students grow up, and just how much they've learned even when we feel like their progress wasn't what we wanted.

Please look forward to October as our blogpost will be going up very soon after this one. Thank you for reading this longer than usual one, and see you next time!

June 2022

Long time no see friends! Welcome to our June blog. It's been awhile, but the memories are still fresh in our minds. This year, it has been unusually lacking in rain, but still very humid nonetheless.

In June, we learned all about rhyming words. Although it was a bit difficult for Dream class to grasp the concept, this was good exposure to it. They were able to recognize the words ram and dam, and rat and cat, just to name a few words.

Below, you can see them working on their rhyming worksheets.

Love Class did well, and were able to recognize words that rhyme. They also had a bit of difficulty recognizing that plane and train can also rhyme!

As well as learning about rhymes, we celebrated two birthdays. We celebrated Hayu's birthday first. She turned 7 years old.

We also celebrated William's birthday. He's the youngest and newest friend, so he didn't quite understand how things worked at first. He turned 4 years old.

We had our Musical English class. Thursdays are always days to look forward to in the week.

Lastly, for science in June, we decided to make geodes. The concept was difficult to understand, but at least we got to see how a simple mixture of alum powder and water can make shiny crystals.

Thank you for sticking with us to the end. Our upload schedule is rather inconsistent, but please continue to look forward to future posts.

March/April 2022

Hello there! It feels like it's been such a long time! Welcome to our monthly newsletter! We decided to combine the months of March and April into one, so this newsletter might be a bit longer than usual!

As March marks the beginning of the school year, we fortunately were able to welcome two new friends to SEM. We hope with the seemingly near end to the pandemic, we can welcome more students.

In March, we also celebrated Dohoon's birthday! Can you see how happy the birthday boy looks to be turning 7 years old?

In March we were able to learn about the rules and we introduced the calendar, In April we learned about the human body. Love Class learned about both the inside and outside of the body. Dream Class learned mostly about the outside of the body, but we spent a bit of time learning about the inside of the body with Love Class. It's a bit hard to see from the pictures, but it was still a fun project!

Here, on another group art project, they're actually drawing the springtime. Can you see the trees, flowers, and bees? What else can you see?

To correlate with the spring feeling, we had Planting Day! We hope that our students continue to feel excitement at seeing their plants grow. This day in particular was so messy with dirt getting everywhere!

As usual, we're still doing Musical English, reading, science, and cooking class weekly at SEM. We want to take a more team-oriented and sometimes an individualistic, hands-on approach to science, so we hope to see an increase in student engagement and understanding.

Here, we were building a Ferris wheel using basic geometry. It was a lot harder than we thought it would be, so we were only able to build the Ferris wheels. Later on, we made a platform (not pictured).

Last but not least, we had our first field trip in a long time. We went to a local park and we saw a few animals.

Well, that's all for the months of March and April! Let's hope with the seemingly near end to this pandemic, we can make more memories together! Please look forward to next month's blogpost. As always thank you for reading!
