June 2016

Summer is here! In June, we studied art and learned the names of famous paintings and artists. Some of the famous artists we studied were Pablo Picasso, Leonardo Da Vinci, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, among many others. We also learned about colors, for example which ones are primary, secondary or tertiary colors and how to mix primary colors to make new colors.

We played with paint to discover what colors we could make using just the primary colors, red, blue and yellow. It was really fun!

Then we took a field trip to the Pohang Art Museum on June 24th. We saw many interesting paintings and sculptures, many of which were related with children's stories. There was also a fun place to sit and look at books about art. Unfortunately it was a rainy day, but we had fun having a picnic in our classroom after our trip.

On June 1st we celebrated Kyle's 5th birthday. He showed us his photos and we all wished him a happy birthday.

The 15th was Chloe's 6th birthday. Unfortunately she was sick that day, but we had a fun party for her on the 23rd with yummy cake!

And the 20th was Aiden's 5th birthday. We were excited to celebrate with him and see all his photos!

Miss Stephanie showed us how to make Korean pickles with onion and green peppers. We watched how she made the sauce to pickle them in and we got to help with cutting the onions (but sometimes they made us cry a little!)

We did a lot of art this month with Miss Maura and with our art teacher Miss Sunny. Since we were learning about art, it was a good chance to learn to draw by copying the artists we studied. Miss Maura showed us how to draw a picture of Sam the cat by Andy Warhol, a portrait of Pablo Picasso and we also made portraits of our friends and self portraits.

We're all looking forward to another fun month in July!

May 2016

We had so much fun this May! At the beginning of the month, we were very busy preparing gifts for our parents for Parent's Day. We made some cute crafts with Miss Maura and our art teacher Miss Sunny. We even made yummy cookies!

On May 4th we celebrated Children's Day by playing games, watching movies and eating pizza for lunch. We had a great time! The 5th and 6th were a holiday, so we could enjoy that time with our families celebrating the holidays together.

The 16th was Hans' 5th birthday. We had a special party for him. He showed us his baby photos and then we all wished him a happy birthday as he blew out the candles on his cake.

Our field trip this month was to the Jureong Jureong Animal Park in Gyeongju. We saw so many different animals there, including lizards, snakes, prairie dogs, a serval cat, parrots and fish. We got to pet and hold some of the animals and learn about where they come from and interesting facts about them.

After the animal park we had a lovely picnic in Gyeongju. Everyone had yummy food and then we played tag in the park.

Our theme in May was family and adjectives for describing people. We learned the names for different family members and how we are connected. To help us understand these relationships, we all made family trees. It was great to see everyone's family trees and learn more about the important people in our lives.

It's getting sunnier and hotter these days, so it looks like spring is finished. Let's have a great summer together!
