November Newsletter

November's theme is When I Grow Up. Our main focus will be on occupations. We'll discuss several popular occupations (such as Firefighter and Police Officer) and we'll learn about each student's personal dream job -- how someone with this job dresses, how they spend their day at work, what they do to benefit society and what skills they need. At the end of the month, we are going to visit a real fire station to find out firsthand what goes on there.
Beyond that, we will explore the strange and interesting world of grown-ups. After all, they dress differently, drive cars, have cellphones and of course raise kids of their own. Everyone is encouraged to use their imagination in thinking about just what it must be like to be one of these unusual people. At home, talk to your child about your own job and your family members' jobs, as well as everyday tasks like shopping and paying bills that may seem boring to you. Your kid might just be fascinated.

Post-Robot-Museum Picnic in the Park

After the Robot Life Museum we went to Yeong-Il Dae Park for lunch and art class.

Miss Layla concentrates very hard on finding the right leaf.

As you can see, all the excitement left some of us very tired.

Field Trip to the Robot Life Museum!

Yesterday we went to the Robot Life Museum on POSTECH campus.

October Newsletter

This month we will be studying nutrition. Fat, protein, simple and complex carbohydrates, fiber and vitamins and minerals ... there is a lot to learn, but it's such an important topic. All of our friends here at SEM are old enough to begin understanding how what they eat affects them and to start making good decisions. Obesity is on the rise in Korea, but if we learn how to eat healthy now we'll stay that way for our whole lives.

At home, expect your child to take an increased interest in meals and their ingredients. Don't be surprised if he or she tells you that dinner was not only delicious, but rich in protein. At the same time, be careful with sweets and fatty foods; we'll be learning about the dangers of eating too much of these, and your child will let you know all about it.

Finally, we’ll be celebrating Halloween on Friday, October 30th. We’ll all have costumes and we’ll go trick-or-treating at neighborhood businesses, followed by some fun time at the playground and a party. Get your costumes ready!

Enjoy your child!
